MotoGP/Moto2/Moto3 2014

From 2014, however, the roles are reversed. All bikes are classed as MotoGP entries, but an exception is made for teams entered under the 'Factory Option'. MotoGP bikes are allowed 12 engines and 24 liters of fuel, but must run the official ECU hardware and software. Manufacturers can choose to enter four riders as 'Factory Option' entries, who must run the official ECU hardware, but are free to write their own software for the standard ECU. Factory Option entries are allowed only five engines per season, and 20 liters of fuel per race.

It is a remarkable and shrewd rewriting of the rulebook. Although on the face of it, nothing concrete has changed, in effect, the MSMA entries have become the exception, rather than the rule. The concept of a single class has been reinstated, with a special allowance made for factories who wish to submit to the discipline of making do with 20 liters of fuel, in return for the freedom to write their own software. Having the class redefined in this way is the first step on the way to the removal of that freedom. After all, it is easier to remove an exception than it is to change the rules. The next major rule change is expected to come in 2017, with the removal of the factory option the first priority, closely followed by the imposition of a rev limit.

The introduction of the Factory Option also slips another change under the radar. Where previously, a manufacturer was defined as a motorcycle manufacturer and member of the MSMA, now the link to the MSMA has been dropped. In its place comes an explicit reference to a manufacturer as being either a motorcycle manufacturer or a chassis manufacturer. This recognition had been demanded by the chassis manufacturers in the series since shortly after the introduction of the Moto2 class. The MSMA was still making the rules, while the chassis manufacturers had no say in the rulemaking process.

The introduction of the Factory Option has another useful side effect. For a while, everyone involved in the sport had been wondering how to refer to the CRT teams now that the claiming rule was to be dropped. By redefining everyone as MotoGP entries, and manufacturer entries as Factory Option, there are once again two clearly defined and easily explained classes: MotoGP, and Factory MotoGP.

Marco Simoncelli is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a MotoGP™ Legend. The Italian was a front-runner in the premier class before tragically losing his life to an accident in 2011.
In becoming a MotoGP™ Legend, Simoncelli’s name will be the 21st on the list as he joins a list of 20 other greats. To the shock of race fans around the world, the Gresini rider lost his life on Sunday 23 October 2011 in a crash on the second lap of the Malaysian Grand Prix, just one week after finishing in second place at Phillip Island.

The Italian rider dazzled the World Championship paddock with his charisma, ability and racing style and was a World Champion, having taken the 250 crown in 2008 - a title he narrowly missed out on defending in 2009. Arriving in the premier class in 2010, his progress was rapid and before his untimely death Simoncelli had already taken two premier class podiums and two poles in a strong second campaign.

Marco Simoncelli’s introduction as a MotoGP™ Legend will take place at this year’s Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, as he joins the list already including compatriot Giacomo Agostini plus Mick Doohan, Geoff Duke, Wayne Gardner, Mike Hailwood, Daijiro Kato, Eddie Lawson, Anton Mang, Angel Nieto, Wayne Rainey, Phil Read, Jim Redman, Kenny Roberts, Jarno Saarinen, Kevin Schwantz, Barry Sheene, Freddie Spencer, John Surtees, Casey Stoner and Carlo Ubbiali.
Arme kerel.

Eerste dag testen in Sepang zit erop. (y)

Injured Márquez to miss Malaysia test

Quote:

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Márquez has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming Malaysia test after breaking his fibula during a dirt-track training session in Lleida, near Barcelona, on Wednesday.

The Repsol Honda rider was immediately taken to the Universitario Quirón Dexeus Hospital, where renowned surgeon Dr. Xavier Mir treated the spiral fracture, which occurred on the distal third of his right fibula.

After carrying out a routine CT scan and X-ray, Dr. Mir explained: "The results showed no ligament damage or dislocation and no need to proceed with surgery. I expect he will need 3-4 weeks to fully recover."

Márquez, who will remain non-weight bearing for two weeks, could also miss the Phillip Island gathering which takes place the following week, but his team expects him to be in full health for the opening race in Qatar.

Constant gebikkel,z aligheid :picobello:
